How was the e-Chair designed?

What is the e-Chair made of?

The chair frame consists of nylon, fiber plastic, and high-impact polypropylene, with steel reinforcements. The back is covered in 100% high tenacity polyester mesh, and the base has a five-pointed star shape made of injection aluminum with a powder coating. The e-Chair is fully certified by BIFMA (the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer's Association), and meets all BIFMA standards.

I'm not sure if the e-Chair will fit my desk. What are its measurements?

The e-Chair is 26" wide at the armrests and 21" at the seat front. In addition, the arms are recessed 8" to ensure a comfortable fit under your work surface or desktop. Depending on your particular adjustment of the e-Chair, the height of the seat is between 18" and 22" and the arm rests are generally between ¾" and 1 ½".

How can I learn the correct techniques to get maximum benefit out of the e-Chair?

The e-Chair is accompanied by a CD-ROM featuring video presentations of the chair's many features, and the proper way to use them. Individual adjustment videos explaining and demonstrating each control and feature of the e-Chair are also available at the Adjusting Your e-Chair section of this site. When used with a full understanding of its features, your e-Chair will adjust to fit any body type.

Does the e-Chair come with repair & maintenance instructions, and customer support?

Every e-Chair is covered by a factory warranty. We also maintain full repair & maintenance information on this web site, and customer support, instructions, and replacement parts are available by calling 1-866-474-7488 from 9:00am to 4:00pm central standard time. How do I keep my e-Chair clean?

You may clean the frame and the mesh back with mild soap and water, and the seat with a mild shampoo or upholstery cleaner, occasionally or as needed.

Is the e-Chair useful as a conference room chair?

Will you ship outside of the United States?

What does "ergonomic" mean?

Ergonomics is the science of designing equipment that conforms to the user's natural body shape and movements, thereby reducing fatigue and discomfort and promoting musculo-skeletal health.

Is ergonomics a passing fad or a genuine health issue?

Far from being an empty buzzword, ergonomics is firmly rooted in science, and widely recognized as a legitimate area of concern. Centers for Disease Control guidelines for ergonomic chairs state that "the chair is the starting point for a properly designed work station."

Can I really afford an ergonomic chair?

We believe ergonomic equipment pays for itself in increased productivity and reduced worker's compensation and absenteeism. Sun Microsystems agrees: in 1992, they spent a total of $1.5 million on over 300 repetitive-motion claims. After introducing ergonomic equipment and training, they spent only $100,000 on about 50 claims in the first nine months of 2002. Now, with the e-Chair retailing for a fraction of the price of the established chairs, this investment looks better than ever.

I don't have any noticeable back or neck problems. Do I really need an ergonomic chair?

If you spend several hours a day sitting at a computer, it's only a matter of time before your body starts to show the strain. Preventive measures are your best option; after all, why wait until you're in pain to do something about it?

Will the e-Chair help my back and neck pain?

When used properly, ergonomic chairs have been proven to correct some previously existing back and neck problems. According to a 2001 study by Cornell University's Human Factors and Ergonomics Laboratory, workers who were given ergonomic products and trained in their use reported an average 40% decline in musculo-skeletal problems after only eight months.
